F8 Hotkey Not Working in GS Auto Clicker? The Administrator Fix and 4 More

The one-sentence diagnosis: when F8 works on the desktop but not in your game, GS Auto Clicker and the game are running at different Windows privilege levels, and Windows deliberately blocks the lower one from injecting input into the higher one. The fix takes 20 seconds.

Fix 1: Run GS Auto Clicker as administrator (the usual cure)

  1. Close GS Auto Clicker (tray icon → Exit).
  2. Right-click its shortcut → Run as administrator. Clicking should now work in-game.
  3. To make it permanent: right-click shortcut → Properties → Compatibility → check “Run this program as an administrator” → Apply.

Why this happens: games launched through launchers or with anti-cheat often run elevated; a normal-privilege clicker can click everywhere except into that window — and its global hotkey gets swallowed too. The reverse also fails: if GS runs elevated and the game does not, prefer matching the game’s level instead of elevating both blindly.

Fix 2: Another program owns F8

Screen recorders, streaming overlays (Discord, GeForce Experience, Steam overlay), RGB/keyboard suites and other clickers register global hotkeys. Close suspects one at a time, or simply rebind GS to a different key (F9, a numpad key, Scroll Lock) — rebinding sidesteps the whole fight.

Fix 3: Laptop Fn keys

Many laptops default F-keys to media controls, so “F8” sends “mute” instead. Hold Fn + F8, toggle the Fn-lock if your keyboard has one, or switch “Action Keys Mode” in BIOS/UEFI. Rebinding the hotkey to a non-F key avoids this entirely.

Fix 4: Test where it works

Open Notepad and press F8. If clicking works there, the program and hotkey are fine — the problem is the target app (privileges, Fix 1, or the app actively blocking synthetic input). If it fails even in Notepad, reinstall the genuine file from the download page and re-check your settings (guide).

Fix 5: The window has focus rules

Some games only accept input while focused and in specific display modes. If clicks work in windowed mode but not fullscreen, play windowed/borderless — a common practical workaround for older input tools.
